Why Being a Woman Deserves a Gold Medal!

If you’re reading this, this is your reminder to pamper a woman today. Period.

Every time I think about how, in a whole month, a woman’s body barely has one week of feeling alright, I let out a big ol’ sigh. It’s like your body is conditioned to never catch a break.

You can just wake up one day and feel so out of place. Your mood is off the radar 🚀, you feel bloated, you pick up smells more intensely than usual, your armpits and lower back are hurting like crazy, you’re sweating more than you should, you’re breaking out, and your nipples are sore. And on top of that, you feel irritated and so sad for absolutely no reason at all. But no—you’re not sick. It’s just your premenstrual symptoms warning you of what’s coming.

Then, when your period finally arrives, it’s another season of being uncomfortable and stressed, both physically and mentally. The first day of your period isn’t a walk in the park either. It’s literally you trying to choose between surviving and letting the pain consume you.

But hey, at least you’re not pregnant, right? 😅

And while you’re there, writhing in pain and dealing with period diarrhea (yep, period diarrhea), sore nipples, headaches, and a heavy flow, you still have to remember to sleep, walk, sit, and even bend a certain way so nothing goes wrong. You avoid sleeping a certain way so you don’t get stained. You avoid sitting a certain way so your pad doesn’t shift. You avoid bending too much so your lower abdomen doesn’t ache even more. You even avoid squeezing or laughing because… well, we all know what happens. 😩

And don’t even get me started on all the contraptions—tampons, diva cups… omg. And let’s not forget having to change or empty these things in PUBLIC RESTROOMS… NIGHTMARE.COM.

Your period will have you sitting there wondering how a process that’s supposed to remind you you’re not pregnant can also be the source of so much discomfort you wish you could just snap your fingers and stop it forever (and still be fine). Like, make it make sense???

Let’s not forget the random lack of strength that comes with being on your period. All of a sudden you have no interest in eating, moving, working, or even doing the things you normally enjoy. Why? You have no idea either. All you know is you’re just tired and uninterested. And even in that state, you still have to drag yourself to the bathroom. And after dragging yourself there, now you gotta rinse and rinse until there’s no trace of blood left before changing into a clean tampon or pad.

And if your flow is heavy? Heavens help you—you’ll have to move FAST before a drop of blood lands where it shouldn’t. 🩸

And IF you somehow make it through your period, ovulation is waiting for you. And you’d think she’d be nice because she does make you feel good and desirable sometimes. But on other days?? She gives you cramps, nausea, and tender breasts.

And for some reason you can smell male pheromones from miles away—like what?! Why?! Dude who was super ugly a few days ago now seems like hot bread fresh out the oven with belted butter… if you know, you know. 😭

And let’s not forget, without warning, she might just hit you with a yeast infection out of nowhere, for a little razzle dazzle I guess. 🙃 Either way, you have no idea why she’s doing this to you.

Then, when you finally get pregnant, you’d think you’d catch a break for nine months. But 8 times out of 10, your body tells you, “Joke’s on you!” Before you know it, you’re dealing with either extra weight, a change in complexion, weird cravings, increased or decreased libido, excessive spitting, extreme fatigue, swollen feet, a swollen nose… OR a combination of all of the above.

And even at menopause, when you think, “Finally, the war is over,” your body still finds a way to keep the drama going. She’ll throw in low libido, insomnia, joint pain, dry skin, exhaustion, heat flashes. And just when you think you’re done with periods—SURPRISE!—you might still get spotting or even full-blown periods at the oddest times. And you’ll be standing there wondering, “Why isn’t my body resting yet??” 🥴

I say all this to say: being a woman and dealing with these constant cycles isn’t as easy as it seems.
The more I think about it, the more I feel my BP rising.

So to every woman going through these endless changes: what a woman you are. I’m proud of you, Queen. 👑

Go easy on yourself… you deserve it. 💖
